The Union of Small & Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has appealed to finance ministry to extend the last date of filing income tax returns for the tax year 2004.
The Union contended that due to the auspicious night of Shab-e-Barat falling on Thursday 30th September 2004, the taxpayers would be devoting time to the prayers and will not be in a position to submit their returns.
Unisame President, Zulfikar Thaver requested Dr Salman Shah Adviser on Finance to Prime Minister to consider extension up to 9th October 2004 to enable the SMEs to finalise and submit their returns easily.
Secondly, he also pointed out that SMEs were complaining of power failures and their inability to complete statements due to frequent shut down of electronic devices.
Unisame appreciated the positive attitude of the Central Board of Revenue for introducing turnover tax of 0.75 percent of sales, which had proved very convenient and affordable for taxpayers.
