Uniform power tariff urged for country

28 Sep, 2004

Nisar Shekhani, Chairman, Site Association of Industry (SAI), has urged the federal minister for water and power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, to make efforts to implement uniform electricity tariff in the country as is the case vis-à-vis petroleum and natural gas.
Commenting on the relief announced by the minister, he said that the decision taken by him for providing relief to general public and commercial and industrial consumers in KESC network of 10 to 25 paisa per unit is an applauding and timely decision.
He advised the affected consumers to avail the relief package and get their connections restored.
The SAI chief thanked Jatoi for the relief package which he described "as a first step". The need of the hour is that uniform electricity tariff should prevail in the country as is the case vis-à-vis petroleum and natural gas.
Shekhani also lauded the role of Ogra in rejecting the demand of SSGC for Rs 2.4 per unit (BTU) increase in gas prices.
He said that Ogra had saved the local industries from the burden of ever-increasing utility prices. The step will definitely help the local consumers in sustaining the pressure being mounted by their competitors internationally, he added.
