Punjab Provincial Co-operative Bank Limited (PPCBL) would become leader in agriculture banking and micro finance by the year 2015.
Punjab Minister for Cooperative, Colonel Malik Muhammad Anwar (Retd) stated this while addressing a meeting here on Tuesday.
The provincial government is taking necessary steps to make the bank's policy on agriculture effective and in this regard model branches are being established in the province, he added.
The PPCBL is the only scheduled bank in the co-operative sector, which is providing facilities at doorsteps through its 159 branches. He said the PPCBL is fulfilling farmers' needs pertaining to long-term and short-term loans through cooperative societies. The defaulters can receive fresh loans after repaying their previous loans as lump sum, he added.
On direction of Punjab Chief Minister, special relief has been provided in Barani areas and securities' terms have been relaxed up to Rs 200,000 loan, he added.
