SSGC refuses to supply additional gas to Wapda

04 Oct, 2004

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has refused to supply additional gas to Wapda's four power plants in Sindh and Balochistan under the current Gas Supply Agreement, it is learnt. "This matter is open for the last one year, but Wapda is reluctant to sign the revised GSA for additional gas quantities which is a requirement of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), sources said quoting a letter from SSGC Managing Director Munawar Baseer Ahmad.
Sources said that SSGC had asked Wapda to come forward and finalise the revised GSA, but the Wapda did not take the matter seriously.
"SSGC will not enhance gas supply to Jamshoro, Quetta, Kotri and Sukkur power plants if Wapda fails to sign a revised GSA," they said.
SSGC, according to sources, has informed Wapda that in the absence of revised GSA supply to these power plants would be as fellows: Jamshoro 53 mmcfd; Kotri 10 mmcfd; Quetta 08 mmcfd.
The power to Sukkur is not operational as because Wapda did not make payments for new line, sources said, adding that gas supply to Quetta would be discontinued from December to January next as per agreed allocations.
