Fresh peace bid in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga invited Tiger rebels on Monday to start talks on establishing a federal state to end ethnic bloodshed but the opposition boycotted her latest peace initiative.
Kumaratunga opened the first meeting of the National Advisory Council for Peace and Reconciliation (NACPR) which she has launched in a bid to seek views of a wider cross-section of society on peace-related issues.
