Punjab University Vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood has asked the teachers to ensure periodical communication to the parents/guardians on the performance of their children and also ensure proper utilisation of endowment fund and scholarships.
While presiding over a meeting held to review the performance of Inter-Peer Review committees here on Wednesday, Arshad said the university has taken steps for promoting/arranging internship for the students to develop code of conduct. He appreciated the steps taken to attract the foreign students and linkages with other local and foreign universities for student exchange programmes and use of Information Technology instead of total reliance on textbooks.
He directed the teachers to employ carrot and stick policy in dealing with students. The students should be involved in assignments, presentation, group discussions and in practical field training to equip them for their future role in the profession and they should be taken to task for poor performance in exams, low attendance, misbehaviour in the class rooms, he added.
It may be mentioned that Inter-Peer Review committees have been formed to assess and evaluate performance of the university and affiliated institutions. These committees have been very helpful in promoting curricular and extra-curricular activities among the students as the committees have arranged increased number of debates, declamation contests, indoor and out-door games, trips to local industrial units, special lectures by eminent scholars, other social and religious activities.
