Senior Vice President, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) Sharafat Ali Mubarak has demanded of the NWFP government to issue the notification of the exemption of five-marla houses from the property tax to give relief to the people from the harassment of the officials of the department of excise and taxation.
In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, Mubarak said that despite the exemption of five-marla houses from the property tax, the department is issuing notices to the people in general and trading community in particular.
Expressing concern over the matter, he said that bureaucracies bent upon defaming the MMA government in the province and have set aside clear-cut directives of the government in this regard.
He said that the business community of the province warmly welcomed the decision of the exemption of five-marla houses from property tax. However, he said that the provincial government has yet to issue formal notification, saying that taking benefit of the situation, the department is issuing notices to both traders and general public, whom he said is sheer injustice with them.
Sharafat Ali Mubarak demanded of the Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani and Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq to intervene into the matter and issue notification in this regard.
He said that despite clear-cut directives of the government, the department is not implementing the said decision.
