IDBP employees' plea for job security

08 Oct, 2004

Industrial Development Bank of Pakistan (IDBP) Employees Union has urged the government to secure the jobs of the bank employees and in case of privatisation of the bank offer them Golden Hand Shake Scheme (GHS) package on the pattern of ICP.
The union in its urgent meeting held here on Thursday made an appeal to President, General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Governor State Bank Dr Ishrat Hussain and others on the helm of affairs, to prepare a policy about the future of the bank and its employees.
Addressing the meeting, Union Secretary Information Asif Khan said there are rumours that the Ministry of Finance is planning to spare non-clerical and clerical staff up to grade-I who are non graduate or have been promoted after 1996, without giving any compensation.
This state of affairs has created panic and disappointment among the employees, he added.
He urged the government to secure their jobs in the course of privatisation and if the privatisation is inevitable, they may be offered GHS with 100 percent commutation in line with GHS offered to ICP employees earlier.
It was demanded that non clerical/clerical staff and officers up to Grade-I having service of 10 to 19 years who are in the middle of their career be given additional benefit of five years as was done with NDFC, ICP and SME employees.
Moreover, the pay scales may be revised because no promotions were given since the last many years and most of the employees are at maximum of their scales.
The participants of the meeting also lauded the government policies and assured their full support in implementation of the government's nation building plans.
