Pak-Afghan border at Torkham will remain closed on Saturday both for vehicular and pedestrian traffic as Afghans would go to polls for first the presidential election in the country, an Afghan official told Business Recorder on Friday.
"The gate of Pak-Afghan border will be closed on Saturday morning and no one would be allowed to cross over from either side. However, vehicles carrying dead bodies or serious patients would be allowed to cross from both sides of the border," the official said.
He dispelled the impression that the border would be sealed for three days from Friday to Sunday. He said that due to weekly off in Afghanistan on Friday trucks were held up on Afghan side. A Customs official at Torkham said that unlike previous Friday, the gate at Pak-Afghan border remained opened and a lot of trucks were cleared as Afghan authorities had deputed one official on duty to allow entry of vehicles.
