UNHCR donates Rs 1.2 million equipment to Lady Duffrin Hospital

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) donated various medical equipment of worth Rs 1.2 million to Lady Duffrin Hospital here on Thursday.
Quetta sub-office In-charge Yousif Ahmed Adam handed over the equipment to Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Arifa Anwar at a simple ceremony held in Lady Duffrin Hospital.
Speaking on the occasions, Adam said that they selected Lady Duffrin Hospital for the donation as it not only provided treatment facilities to local people of Quetta and Balochistan, but also the Afghan women patients.
"Besides the performance of the medical staff and the treatment facilities being provided to patients also forced us to donate the equipment to the hospital," he said. That donation was also a gesture of good will towards the Pakistan and Balochistan governments for providing shelter to Afghan refugees for about 25 years, he added.
"We are extremely happy with the hospitality of Pakistan government which it extended to Afghan refugees for quite a long period," he said and thanked the government for its generosity.
He informed the UNHCR would also donate medical equipment to the Civil Hospital Chaman shortly. "We also provided various medical equipment worth Rs 5.5 million to the Civil Hospital Chaman in 2003" he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arif a Anwar thanked the UNHCR for its generous donation to the hospital and said it would help a lot the hospital staff to provide better treatment facilities to its patients.
"We are in dire need of these equipment's," she said and maintained that the UNHCR by meeting the hospital requirements had done a great service not only to women patients but also to entire humanity.
The equipment included one ultrasound machine with printers, one generator, one Diathermy Machined GD-350 (China), one gynae surgical set, one electric suction machine VB-DX.230B, one baby resustation trolly HNK-90 (China), one weight for height chart two scalpel handle, two test tube rack, two air ways, two auto clave large/small, three tissue forceps, four chittle forceps, five bowel stand, seven instrument tray, 10 kidney tray, 20 quilts, 30 surgical blade, 50 plain forceps and other items.
