Pakistan Post has contributed substantially to further strengthen the goals and objectives of the Universal Postal Union, said former Director General Pakistan Post Mohammad Khursheed.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the World Post Day ceremony organised by Postal Staff College here on Saturday.
Khursheed said that Pakistan Post provides modern, economical and reliable hi-tech postal services across the country. There is no substitute for written words, as many people are using the electronic devices to communicate with one another, he added.
He said the love and affection, which a person feels by reading a letter on paper received by relatives cannot be compared with computer messaging.
The theme of this year's World Post Day is "Reaching everyone, everywhere."
Director, Postal Staff College, Ahsan Baser Sheikh read out the message of the Director General, UPU, Thomas E. Leavey on the occasion.
The message stated that 190 postal services that form the UPU continue to constitute a single postal territory and the largest physical distribution network in the world.
According to UPU data, five percent of the population in developing countries, is still without postal coverage, with the situation in Africa being the most worrisome as 18 percent of the continent's population has no access to postal services, it added.
In his welcome address, Joint Director, Postal Staff College, Abdur Rashid highlighted the importance of the World Post Day.
