Pakistan beat India by three strokes to win the team international event of the 44th National Amateur golf Championship, registering their fifth consecutive victory against archrivals in the international meets, here at Lahore Gymkhana Course on Saturday.
Pakistan posted a score of 430 after adding 221 to previous day's score of 209 to beat Indians in their -fifth meeting to maintain their supremacy. India scored 433 receiving 222 on the final day having scored 211 on the opening day.
Pakistan had earlier beaten India in the Kirloskar Trophy a few days ago at the same venue, in the 3rd SAAPC Championship at Lahore in August, Karachi international championship in February this year and Asia-Pacific Championship in September last year in Australia.
In the five-team competition, the Pakistani team struck excellent form and thwarted India's efforts to take revenge of the defeat in Kirloskar Trophy.
Sri Lanka took the third place with 440,Bangladesh secured fifth with 454 and Iran finished at rock bottom with 460. It is a memorable feeling to beat our opponents for the fifth time in a row and Pakistani team has really done a remarkable job to maintain the flow of its victories against India, said Shahid Javed Khan, Pakistan top ranking golfer, after the match.
He said home golfers played with precision and command and proved that their standard of the game was going up and Pakistan was emerging as a new golfing force in the region.
From Pakistan Shahid scored 71, Dr Imal Zaman 74,Vaqas Ahmad 76 and Tariq Mahinood 78.
Indian scorers were Vikrant Chopra 73, Amarbir Singh 73, Jaideb 76 and Jaskirat S. Dullet 81.
Pakistan team played too good and outplayed us and it deserved to win said Jaskirat adding, "We could not rise and failed to match the standard of the game of our opponents"
In the individual event, Shahid was firmly holding his top slot where as two Indians and one Pakistani players were tied at the second place.
Shahid fired one under par 71 to add to his previous score of 69 making it 138 and five strokes behind him were Vikrant, Amarbir and Aimal.
Shahid continued to demonstrate his superb hitting and controlled game to remain in front as Ismal who was behind him on the opening day faced strong challenge from the Indian players.
Vikrant played one over par 73 and so did Amarbir. Both had identical scores of 70 on the opening day. Aimal (69) returned two over par 74 to score 143.
Sri Lankans made some improvement by finishing at third and fourth places in the day's play, Tissa Chandardasa 72+72 (144) and with Mithun Perera 72+76 (148).
Pakistani duo of Wasip Rana and Vaqas Ahmad were jointly sharing 5th place. Wasim scored 74+75 (149) and Vaqas collected 73+76 (149).
