Sony Ericsson Application Shop proven go-to-market channel for developers

11 Oct, 2004

On average, hundreds of thousands of consumers visit the Sony Ericsson Application Shop every month. This shop has proven a valuable go-to-market channel for third party application developers that create software and games for Sony Ericsson phones.
Statistics from Handango, Sony Ericsson's software distribution partner, show that the average UIQ customer spends 36% more on software per purchase (in USD) than the average PDA and phone customer.
"This shows that consumers are keen on using their smartphone to its fullest potential. This also makes a strong business case for the third party application developers we help achieve business success by assisting them in going to market," says Ulf Wretling, director and head of Content Development for GSM/UMTS phones at Sony Ericsson.
Ever since the launch of the Sony Ericsson Application Shop in March 2003, the Sony Ericsson PBOOIP900 is the top phone adding most new software and content across all of Handango's customer distribution channels.
According to Handango statistics, the Sony Ericsson P800/P900 has since Q4 2003 also been the top device adding software out of all the other phones and PDAs that Handango-managed distribution channels support.
According to the most recent Handango Yardstick report for Symbian OS, the P900 was the top search word during the first half of 2004, while the P800 retained a strong fifth position.-PR
