Sharon survives no-trust votes

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon survived two no-confidence votes in Israel's parliament on Monday, clinging to power as he seeks to push through a disputed plan for withdrawal from some occupied territory.
Lawmakers voted 60-52 to reject a motion filed by the main opposition Labour party against the government's economic and social policies. Labour needed 61 "yes" votes to topple Sharon's troubled right-wing coalition in the 120-seat Knesset.
