Prime Minister approves Ramazan relief package

12 Oct, 2004

Prime Minister has approved a relief package for Ramazan envisaging up to 10 percent reduction in prices by the Utility Stores Corporation. Items used in sizeable quantity during the holy month would be sold by the Utility Stores outlets at 10 percent discount. These include pulses, rice, baison, squashes and syrups, dates, pickles, milk and spices.
Tea and sugar prices would be reduced by 5 percent.
The Utility Stores Corporation would also reduce prices of over three hundred other items during the month. The Corporation would also reduce price of vegetable ghee in small packing and brands purchased by ordinary consumer at the level of the wholesale price.
The price reduction would provide considerable relief to the common man. A similar relief last year effectively checked the price hike in the open market and was highly appreciated by the people.
