Declaration of assets: Election Commission to notify names of defaulting lawmakers

The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to notify names of members of parliament and provincial assemblies who failed to file their yearly statements of assets and liabilities in terms of provisions of law.
Such members shall cease to function till such statements are submitted by them.
A meeting of the commission was held on Monday under the chairmanship of chief election commissioner former Chief Justice Irshad Hassan Khan. It was attended by members of election commission.
According to a statement, the commission perused yearly statements of assets and liabilities submitted by members of the Senate, National Assembly and four provincial assemblies as envisaged by section 25A of the Senate Election Act, 1975 and section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976.
It resolved that the yearly statements of assets and liabilities submitted by members of the Parliament and four assemblies be published in the official gazette subject to all just exceptions.
The meeting requested the chief election commissioner to notify names of those parliamentarians who have not filed their annual assets and liabilities statements, directing that such members shall cease to function till such statements are submitted by them.
The election commission in its meeting held on September 15, 2004 had resolved to return the statements of accounts filed by some political parties in violation of article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002 and or rule 11 of Political Parties Rules, 2002.
In response, thereto, the following political parties have resubmitted their statements of accounts, which were perused by the commission.
The commission said it has resolved to publish the statements of accounts of following political parties subject to all just exceptions in the official gazette for information of general public.
1) Balochistan National Parry (Awami); 2) Pakistan Social Democratic Party; 3) Mohajir Kashmir Movement; 4) Balochistan National Congress; 5) Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith (Lakhvi group); 6) Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Nifaz-e-Shariat); 7) Punjab National Front; 8) Pakistan Labour Party; 9) Pakistan Brohi Party; 10) Pakistan Shia Political Party; 11) Tehreek-e-Hussainia Pakistan; 12) National Peoples Party; 13) Pakistan Mazdoor Kissan Party; and 14) Qaumi Thaffujz Party.
The election commission also published name of Arbab Zakaullah as a member of the National Assembly who won election from NA-229, Tharparkar I.
