Lahore Dry Port Trust soon

13 Oct, 2004

Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) executive committee and former LCCI presidents have decided to take practical steps for early construction of Lahore Dry Port Trust so as to ensure free and quick handling of international cargo.
The decision was taken after a presentation made by the former LCCI vice president Shahzad Ali Malik to LCCI executive committee and former presidents, says a spokesman of the chamber here on Tuesday.
During the course of presentation it was found that collective strength at existing dry port is insufficient to handle the increase in trade particularly with India after the introduction of WTO and Safta regimes.
The participants also discussed various proposed sites for the construction of Lahore Dry Port Trust that would provide facilities such as cargo handling through modern equipment and skilled workmanship, closed and open warehouses, cold storage and safe for valuable cargo, computerised control of cargo and electronic weighing yards and gantry cranes for handling, yards for storage of imported vehicles, on wheel customs clearance, parking lot for trucks round the clock and customer services desk.
The proposed Lahore Dry Port would be run by 75 members board of trustees comprising 30 each trustee from the leading exporters and importers and rest of the 15 would be the representative of different industrial associations/estates. It is pertinent to mention that share of each trustees would be Rs one million.
