I have read in your October 8 edition a report about the launching of a book on Swaminathan, an Indian agro-scientist, who according to Sartaj Aziz, former Federal Ministter for Agriculture and then Finance and Foreign Affairs, had increased by several folds the production of wheat in his country.
According to Aziz, it was done by the scientist after discovering the potential of the Mexican swarf variety and some other of rice.
I hope you will permit me to ask our former Minister who now holds the coveted office of Vice Chancellor of the Beaconhouse National University that what was he doing when Swaminathan was discovering this new crop and propagating it as a private individual in his country.
Sartaj Saheb, first as a functionary of the FAO where he was sent by Pakistan and later as its Minister in three important positions, was in a better position to import the seed and propagate it in Pakistan.
