Japan to extend $8 million for AIOU upgradation

The Japanese government has agreed to extend about $8 million financial assistance for the upgradation of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
The sources said that the amount would be disbursed for the upgradation of existing courses and the introduction of new subjects at the university.
The sources said that Japan wanted to make the region prosperous, and able to cope with the challenges of the new era.
They said that the assistance would be used for infrastructure development, provision of lab equipment and computers, etc.
The sources said that the AIOU needed this type of assistance as the requirement exceeded the existing capacity for the last few years.
They said that the Japanese government has also desired to co-operate in the education and health sectors. In the past, the Government of Japan has provided such type of assistance, they said.
