What else the CBR expects?

14 Oct, 2004

As per figures released by the CBR, the revenue collected in September 2004 with I.T. returns comes to 5.7 billion rupees as compared to 2.4 billion collected in September 2003, ie 131% higher.
Still the CBR intends to select 4% cases for total audit.
Interestingly on the one hand CBR claims they want to introduce a friendly tax culture and or the other they are not trusting the assessees, who have responded to their campaign for filing I.T. returns with full enthusiasm.
Most probably they are not aware of the fact, that in Karachi I.T. practitioners, charge again fee, if any assessee's case is selected for total audit etc, plus he has to bear the brunt of extra tax.
And the most important fact, that the assessee will remain tense and he can't do any productive business, till his case is finalised.
I would, therefore, request the CBR to do away with the selection of cases this year as the results are very productive and create an atmosphere of friendship with the business community in letter and spirit.
