Ramazan may commence from October 16: Met Office

The spokesman for the meteorological department on Wednesday said: "There are chances of sighting new moon of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak (1425 Hijri) in the evening of October 15 throughout the country.
The Ramazan would commence from October 16, subject to confirmation by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, he said.
He also explained some threshold values of astronomical parameters that point out the possibility of sighting the new moon of Ramazan on October 15.
The spokesman said these parameters require that age of the new moon should be more than 26 hours at the time of twilight for sighting the new moon of Ramazan; whereas this time it is off course more than 34 hours throughout the country.
The minimum duration of the new moon after sunset should be more than 41 minutes, whereas on this occasion, it is also more than 50 minutes all over the country, he added.
As such conditions for sighting the new moon of Ramazan on October 15 are completely in consonant with all parameters, he said, and hoped that Insha-Allah first day of Ramazan would start from October 16 on Saturday.
It is noted that this information issued by the meteorological department is only aimed at facilitating moon-sighting committee with scientific and technical data in order to achieve reliable and accurate results.
It would also help people of Pakistani community living in and abroad for planning their programmes in advance, especially for the Ramazan.
