Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday asked the Ministry of Information Technology to set up a task force to prepare a strategy and action plan for promoting computer services for the business community.
He was reviewing the goals and targets of the Ministry of Information and Technology here at Prime Minister's House.
The Prime Minister said efforts should be made to provide best possible IT facilities to business community for insurance claim processing, medical transcription, legal transcriptions etc.
He said the task force headed by Minister for IT Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari to submit a comprehensive action plan within three months.
The task force will also induct enterprising private sector experts to benefit from their expertise in this regard, he said.
The Prime Minister said the telecom sector has developed at a very fast pace during the last 5 years, the IT sector still needs to be developed.
He said Pakistan has excellent talent base, which should be used to promote IT Software. The deregulation policy of the government has helped a great deal in the promotion and development of telecom and cellular telephone sectors, he added.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan today has the fastest growing cellular sector in the world. He said the ministry should focus on creating environment for software export. He said the IT marketing board should focus on software development and export.
It was also decided to accelerate the process of privatisation of Pakistan Telecom Company. The ministry was also asked to speed up the e-government programme and automation of government departments and organisations.
