Punishment to rapist restored

A five-member Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Sessions Judge, Mianwali, in a rape case, in which he awarded punishment of 25 years imprisonment along with 30 lashes and a fine of Rs 50,000 to Maulana Mushtaq.
The Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Allama Dr Khalid Mahmud, and Justice Dr Rashid Jallundhary set aside the decision of the Federal Shariat Court and restored punishment awarded by the Sessions Judge to Maulana Mushtaq of Jamia Masjid, Piplian district Mianwali. The incident occurred in 2003.
Senior Advocate Rahnwaz Noon appeared before the court on behalf of the victim, Aysha Bibi, a minor girl of only 8 years old.
Advocate M.A. Zaidi represented the accused before the Shaniat Appellate Bench.
According to the decision of the Sessions Judge the accused was found guilty according to medical report.
