The executive board of the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Thursday visited the completed portion of the Mekran Coastal Highway that stretches from the proposed Gwadar Port to Lyari in Karachi.
NHA Executive Board Chairman General Farrukh Javed described the project a difficult one but it had been completed "in record timeframe".
He said the project will not only usher in a new era of economic development in the backward areas of the Balochistan province, but also promote tourism and make its easy to open industrial establishments. He said that the highway would be officially commissioned soon after Eid-ul-Fitr.
It also approved extension in time for completion of Naran-Jalkhad section in Northern Areas.
