Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the present government has held an open exchange of views on the issues which previously were used for creating hatred, and provided art opportunity of developing reconciliation and understanding and harmony.
"The amount of understanding which exists between provinces as well as between the centre and provinces today was not seen in the past".
He was talking to the participants of 24th P.N. Staff Course, led by Course Commandant Commander Agha Danish, who called on the Governor at Governor House here on Saturday. The Governor pledged that the present government, while resolving the issues like that of water and Finance Commission Award through reconciliation, is making them a source of generating greater understanding and national cohesion.
He pointed out that it was for the first time that President Pervez Musharraf held an open discussion on the issue of water from educational institutions to the upper levels.
To a query, the Governor replied that best co-ordination exists between the Sindh and Federal Governments. He said on the directive of President and Prime Minister, the federal departments are also working for the development of Karachi and Rs 29 billion Taameer-e-Karachi programme is reflective of the efforts being made in this regard.
Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said that Karachi is the intellectual, political, social and economic hub of the entire country. It is in focus of everyone because its progress guarantees the development and progress of the country.
He said people do talk about poverty, but what was needed is to identify its causes. Rural areas are comparatively more poor and their only dependence is on agriculture.
