Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi calling upon both Pakistan and India to endeavour collectively to end poverty, hoped that dialogue between two neighbouring countries would bring positive results for establishing peace in the region.
He stated this while talking to former Indian prime minister Inder Kumar Gujral at his residence on Sunday.
The Punjab chief minister dilated that issues between the two regional countries need to be resolved through discussions, saying: "The time has come where forgetting bitterness of past we should move towards brighter tomorrow."
Pervaiz Elahi said that efforts were needed to improve economic lot of the two countries, and averred that direct links between peoples of two countries would add to chances of success of dialogue between Pakistan and India at the regional level.
Applauding historical role of President Pervez Musharraf in promotion of relations between two regional countries, he said the exchange of delegations of parliamentarians and political leaders was playing vital role in understanding of issues.
Pervaiz Elahi also said that mutual efforts between two countries were on for safeguarding and identification of historical places between India and Pakistan.
Inder Kumar Gujral, in his meeting, with Pervaiz Elahi appreciated efforts of President Pervaiz Musharraf in solution to bilateral problems through talks.
He appreciated trend of pliability in approach of peoples of both countries on the occasion. Stressing upon safety of mutual cultural and historical heritage between two countries, the former Indian prime minister applauded cultural heritage of the City of Lahore.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi gave a carpet as gift to Gujral on the occasion. The guest also inquired after the health of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and told the he CM of his tenure as student at the FCC College prior to partition.
Gujral citing role of his family during independence movement stated that he, his mother and father at one time remained in prison during that movement.
