Sub-committee to identify bonded labour cases

The District Nazim, Hyderabad Dr Makhdoom Rafique Zaman on Saturday formed a seven members sub-committee to identity the cases of bonded labour, if any in the district.
Presiding over a meeting of the District Vigilance Committee of Bonded Labour, convened for appraisal of the members of International Labour Organisation (ILO) at his secretariat, the Nazim also decided to establish a complaint cell at the office of Executive District Officer (EDO) Community Development in this regard.
He pointed out that the District has the honour to be the first in the country, which constituted the District.
Vigilance Committee with technical and legal sub-committees on bonded labour and provided two-room office accommodation with block allocation of Rs 0.5 million to make these committees more functional.
He said that Hyderabad district has been cleared from the practice of bonded labour. He added that in this modern age, no one could dare to be allowed to keep the people in the chains or in slavery.
He said that the seven-member sub-committee, comprising one each member from Human Rights Commission, Green Rural Development Organisation, District Labour Department, District Revenue department and members of the District Council Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, M. Parkash advocate and Shahida Ansari will identify and report the cases of bonded labour.
The Nazim also asked for establishment of a complaint cell at the office of EDO Community Development so that any citizen or NGO could register their complaints or get any information about the practice of bonded labour.
He said that the District Government was preparing a separate project and asked the NGOs working on the bonded labour to co-ordinate with the District Government for evolving an effective strategy not only to eliminate the practice of bonded labour but also provide rehabilitation facilities to the victims.
