Punjab schools to have uniform curriculum

The Punjab government as its revolutionary steps to enhance the educational standard and improve the literacy rate has decided to introduce a uniform curriculum in all schools of the province.
The middle and primary standard examinations was made compulsory for students of all private and public sector schools.
Under the Education Reforms Programme of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the provincial government has decided to take revolutionary steps to check the performance of teachers, and bring it at par with the required standards, sources told Business Recorder.
They said it was decided that a uniform syllabus would be introduced in all private and public sector institutions gradually in order to get better results.
Under the Education Reforms Programme, Punjab EDOs were directed to make sure the cent percent enrollment and attendance of students in their respective districts besides, having a complete check on the performance of the teachers, they added.
The sources said to enhance the education standard, it was decided that examination system at the primary and middle levels will be streamlined, adding it was also decided that in 2005, all students would be bound to appear in these examination for passing to next classes, while the private school students for attaining scholarships would also be allowed to appear in these exams.
The middle and primary level central exams in entire province would start in second and third week of February, while the failed candidates would be allowed to appear in supplementary exams in June.
It was also decided that gold, silver and bronze medals would be awarded to the outstanding students.
