Support to dual office bill: LHCBA wants treason case registered against MNAs

19 Oct, 2004

Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has demanded registration of treason cases against those MNAs who voted in support of bill, allowing General Pervez Musharraf to keep both offices of President and COAS.
The bar in a meeting held here on Monday with its President Ahmed Awais in the chair, expressed the resolve that MNAs who voted in favour of bill in question committed a national crime and undermined the federation, the constitution and other state institutions.
The meeting called upon ARD and MMA leadership to shun their differences and wage joint struggle to get rid of dictatorship.
The mover of the resolution Ghulam Sarwar stated after enactment of new law Pakistan had become the only country in the world whose parliament overruled a constitutional amendment by simple majority.
Among others Hamid Khan, Kazim Khan, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari and Ahmed Awais addressed the meeting. They said MNAs by passing the bill defamed Pakistan in democratic world, and the act of MNAs was illegal and unconstitutional.
They said the lawyers had not accepted Legal Framework Order (LFO) and would not accept dictatorship in any shape and would continue their struggle against the dictatorship.
