Sindh governor calls for setting up of two new Sabzi Mandis

Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has emphasised the need for a co-ordinated and comprehensive system for supply of essential items at appropriate rates and protection of the rights of consumers.
In this regard various steps came under consideration at a meeting held at Governor House.
The meeting decided the constitution of voluntary Consumer Rights Committee on the pattern of CPLC, and Governor directed the CPLC chief to make necessary steps in this respect.
The Consumer Rights Committee will work for maintaining prices at proper level along with ensuring quality in co-operation with the housewives, civil society organisations and volunteers and for this purpose also develop awareness among consumers.
The Governor also stressed on making the Bachat bazaars system more effective and transparent to be operated as per their real objective.
In order to bring stability in prices the Governor called for an effective system for supply of items of daily use. In this regard he directed the City Government to take immediate steps for establishment of two new Sabzi Mandis at National and RCD highways.
The Governor asked the concerned authorities to take steps for setting up of Dairy Villages at Karachi, Thatta, Badin and Hyderabad besides making the Landhi abattoir functional.
He took strong exception to the non-implementation of decision for winding up the department of weights and measures and called for immediate steps for its devolution to City Government.
Dr Ishratul Ibad directed that Provincial Transition Wing be activated and the process of devolution of departments to city government be accomplished. He said that such confusions should be immediately removed to carry the benefits of local government system to grass roots level.
In order to ensure the prices at proper level during Ramazan, the Governor directed the police to extend full co-operation to City District Government. In this regard eight teams will operate throughout the city for price checking and ensure availability of consumer items and take action including fines against traders indulging in violations.
Besides police, the teams will also include officials having magisterial powers who would take on the spot action. Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Saleem Khan gave a detailed presentation regarding price fixation and stability and establishment of consumers council and presented various recommendations.
The meeting was attended by Advisor for Local Government, Waseem Akhtar, Chief Secretary Mohammed Aslam Sanjarani, Nazim Karachi Naimatullah Khan, Principal Secretary Brigadier Akhtar Zamin (Retd), DCO Mir Hussain Ali, CPLC Chief Sharfuddin Memon, EDO Revenue and other officials.
