Punjab Irrigation Department has planned to set up a new research centre, near Thokar Niaz Beg, to conduct mathematical studies as well as computer studies of the projects on modern lines.
Punjab Irrigation Minister Aamir Sultan Cheema stated this while presiding over a high-level meeting of research scientists and officers of the department disclosed an official here on Saturday.
Cheema further said that it would be a multi-purpose research oriented centre which would also control the geographical information system (GIS), being introduced within the department soon.
A novel computer lab and testing laboratory would also be established at the centre, he added.
In order to get long lasting and best results, the department would have to focus on research because only research and studies done before commencement of projects could prevent the defects and deficiencies.
The department was already working on a proposal of special incentive package for research scientists, he said and added that a research centre at Nandi Pur was already working under the control of Punjab irrigation department (PID), which was conducting hydraulic studies that were being recognised on international level.
