Taiwan buys raw sugar from Queensland

27 Oct, 2004

The state-run Taiwan Sugar Corp sealed a deal for 35,000 tonnes of raw sugar from Queensland Sugar Ltd on Tuesday and was close to sealing a deal for 34,000 tonnes of white sugar with another supplier, said traders.
The raw sugar shipment is slated for delivery between March and April next year, said traders in London and Asia.
The company is also close to finalising a deal for the white, bagged sugar, slated for delivery between January and March. The shipment is likely to be supplied by a refiner in Dubai, said the traders.
"After these purchases, Taiwan Sugar should have completed its purchasing through to June 2005," said one trader.
Taiwan Sugar is the island's only sugar refiner and the main importer.
