President General Pervez Musharraf has underscored the importance of intensive peacetime training, as it gave the Pakistan Armed Forces a qualitative edge over the adversary.
The President made these remarks while addressing officers of Gujranwala Garrison here on Wednesday.
Musharraf said a vibrant economy and strong defence were key elements for security and progress for any country, and by the grace of Allah Almighty, with an impregnable defence already in place, Pakistan is well on its way to economic growth.
According to a ISPR press release, the President said the unswerving faith in Allah Almighty, high standards of professionalism, devotion to duty complemented with modern weaponry and equipment were the attributes for the Pakistan Armed Forces, being a superb fighting outfit.
He said the government was fully aware of the requirements of the Armed Forces, and taking all possible measures to ensure the provision of state-of-the-art weapons and equipment for them.
The President's wide ranging address focused on the internal and external security environment, operational preparedness and other matters of professional interest, said the ISPR press release.
Corps Commander Lieutenant General Javed Hassan, General Officers Commanding and other senior Army officers were also present on the occasion.
Musharraf also visited the Corps Headquarters, where he was received by the Corps Commander.
The President was also given a briefing on the state of operational preparedness, administrative matters, and welfare measures initiated for the troops of the Formation.
