Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday called upon the newly elected members of Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) to play their vital role for promoting unity, brotherhood and maintaining sectarian harmony for the development of the area. He was talking with a delegation of the newly elected members of NALC who called on him here at Prime Minister Secretariat.
Mushahid Hussain, Nisar A Memon, Salim Saifullah Khan and Iqbal Dar were also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister congratulated the members of NALC on the brilliant success of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) in the elections. He said that Northern Areas have great potential for development in minerals including gems and tourism sectors.
He said that the government was also giving special attention to the promotion of agriculture sector and development of infrastructure facilities for the benefit of the people of the area.
Shaukat said that Northern Areas occupy significant position as the Karakoram Highway (KICH) passes through these areas which is an important trade link between Pakistan and China.
Due to increasing trade, the bilateral relations between Pakistan and China are further improving by the day.
The Prime Minister assured the members of the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) that all resources would be utilised for the socio-economic development of Northern Areas.
