136 gangs of criminals busted in 10 months

Faisalabad Police busted 136 gangs of criminals busy in rampant dacoities, highway robberies and thefts and nabbed 567 members of these gangs during the past 10 months. This was stated by M Amin Vains, District Police Officer, Faisalabad, here on Tuesday.
He said that the Police instituted 1111 cases against the accused and recovered stolen articles worth Rs 97.1 million from their possession.
He said that the police also recovered 72 cars 162 motorcycles 8000 wagons and 136 cycles from possession of these gangs in addition to recovery of over 500 stolen animals.
According to the DPO, the police registered 3601 cases under Arms Act and recovered 12 illicit Kalashnikovs 317 rifles 513 revolvers, 249 carbines 8 hand-grenades, one Sten gun, 1168 guns, 2009 rifles and 80000 cartridges from possession of the accused whose challans have been submitted in the competent courts.
He said that under Drug Act the police registered 205 cases and recovered 10 kg heroin, 11 kg opium, 282 kg charas and 4020 bottles of liquor besides detecting 94 working 'stills' of liquor.
The DPO said that the police arrested 1901 proclaimed offenders and 882 court absconders during the said period. Regarding the overall crime situation in Faisalabad District, the DPO said that the incidence of dacoities, robberies, murders and thefts were normal as against corresponding period of the preceding years.
He said that extensive patrolling of police has been arranged in Faisalabad to help avert serious crimes.
He called upon the citizen to engage security guards for patrolling in their respective area as it was not possible for the police to provide them full security due to shortage of police personnel.
