SHC adjourns hearing in Karachi Nazim's petition

A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC), comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Maqbool Baqer on Wednesday adjourned till November 10 hearing of a constitution petition filed by City Nazim impugning an order of Sindh government against devolution of KDA, MDA and LDA.
Earlier, Raja Haq Nawaz advocate, counsel for City Nazim submitted that issuance of the notification superseding the orders of the City Nazim regarding devolution of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Malir Development Authority (MDA) and Lyari Development Authority (LDA) as wings of CDGK tantamount to seize the independence of the local bodies system introduced by government of General Pervez Musharraf. He submitted that under the devolution programme finalised by the respondent Sindh Local Bodies department and Provincial Transition Wing, all concerned department were to be devolved and work under the City District Government, Karachi (CDGK).
The interference in the matter of the city government would render it financially bankrupt and without powers, he said. Advocate General, Sindh Anwar Mansoor Khan representing Sindh government said that notification was issued by the competent authority and in exercise of jurisdiction vested into the issuing authority.
He was continuing with his arguments when the bench put off further hearing till November 10.
