The Economic Co-ordination Committee of the Cabinet is likely to ask the Trading Corporation of Pakistan to import one million tonnes of wheat at the lowest rate as per specification, an official of Commerce Ministry told Business Recorder. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will preside. "No decision has yet been taken to import wheat from any specific country. If any country, which will give reasonable rate for required specifications, will be awarded the contract", said the official.
Asked whether the TCP would be asked to import new consignment of one million tonnes of wheat, another official, who requested not to be named, said the TCP has not yet been given any indication in this regard, but it is hoped that the ECC may ask the TCP to import new consignment of wheat.
According to agenda, the ECC may take a bold decision to abolish controversial negative list under ATT mainly because of pressure from the higher authorities.
The ECC will also extend government guarantee for the purchase of seven new bombardiers dash 8-300 turbo prop aircraft(s) by PIAC to replace old fleet.
Repayment of JBIC loan, supply of Uch gas for power generation and transfer of the ownership of New Bong Escape (NBE) and the Rajdhani Hydropower projects being implemented in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also on agenda.
