Incentives for gemstones industry pledged

All resources would be utilised for the development of gemstones industry and special incentives would be given to the people belonging to this industry so that export of gemstones could be increased. Punjab Mines and Minerals Minister Muhammad Sibtain Khan said this while talking to a representative delegation belonging of gemstones industry and jewellers here on Thursday, disclosed an official.
The minister said the gemstones industry was basically export industry but total annual export of that industry was only dollars 10 million which was very poor. "The gemstones industry should work on modern lines and new techniques be adopted so that we could compete in the world," he added.
He further said private sector would be encouraged to explore the reserves of gemstones in Punjab and the government would also give full support in that connection.
On this occasion, the delegation members apprised the minister of their problems.
