Chief Justice urged to take notice of Zardari's punishment

05 Nov, 2004

Former Federal Minister Khalid Ahmed Kharal and Munir Ahmed Khan leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) addressing a joint press conference here on Thursday have reacted sharply over eight-year imprisonment awarded to former Senator Asif Ali Zardari. Both the leaders requesting Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of imprisonment awarded to their leader have appealed for suo motu notice on the situation.
They stated that 16 cases faced by 'prisoner of conscience' Senator Zardari were worst example of gross injustice. They averred that Mian Nawaz Sharif and Saifur Rehman on whose behalf these cases were registered against the former Senator had themselves given their comment on these cases and that was an ample proof of innocence of Zardari, they added.
They said that gross violation of human rights has been seen in the case of Zardari. They said that Asif Zardari had endured all the pressure of authorities and despite offers to him of being freed on condition, no compromise on principles will be made, they vowed.
