City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is all set to establish Quran-o-Sunnah Academy to provide religious knowledge. In this connection, a centre will also be established to consolidate creative work regarding 'Quran' and 'Sunnah'. The centre will arrange courses not only for citizens but also for elected representatives, policemen and CDGK employees.
The academy will also prepare, publish and provide books, journals, audio-visual cassettes, CDs and videos.
This was decided in a meeting, held with City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan in the chair here on Thursday.
Naib Nazim Karachi, Tariq Hassan, EDO Community Development, Iqbal Zubedi, Chief Instructor Nipa, Muhammad Arif, Advisor to City Nazim for Media, Ansar Razi, Nazim Barkati and other officers also attended the meeting.
Meeting decided that Quran-o-Sunnah Academy Board would hold meeting once in every month in which academy's performance and other matters would be reviewed.
The members of Board of Governors including Nazim and Naib Nazim Karachi, EDO Community Development CDGK, Chairmen of Quran-o-Sunnah and Arabic Departments Karachi University, Director Islamic Research Academy Karachi, Regional Director Dawaa Academy Karachi and Chief Instructor Nipa Karachi.
Naimatullah Khan said that competitions should be organised on provincial, national and international level on Islamic topics with the assistance of educational institutions and other means.
He stressed the need of arrangements of Islamic programmes for women and express desire to shape tradition, civilisation and thoughts of the society according to 'Quran' and 'Sunnah'.
City Naib Nazim said that mental nurturing was also important along with developmental works and in this regard Quran-o-Sunnah Academy would take part in providing Islamic teachings to people.
The meeting also decided to hold meeting of Board of Governors on December 9 in which recommendations presented by committee would be reviewed.
