Leather Research Centre (LRC) of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) has been awarded accreditation to ISO-17025. PCSIR Chairman Dr Anwar ul Haq told newsmen on Tuesday that now LRC had become the third unit of the PCSIR to get that prestigious award.
He said it would be heartening news for the leather manufacturers, exporters and traders of the country, adding the leather manufacturers and the traders would now benefit from that honour and would spare them the inconvenience of sending their products abroad for certification.
He said leather industry in Pakistan was the second largest export earning industry, adding the average leather export and leather goods from Pakistan amounted to Rs 42 billion per annum.
Dr Anwar said a team of ISO and technical exports from Pakistan National Accreditation Council did the assessment for ISO-17025 for the given scope.
