NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) has directed to ensure merit and transparency at every level of life in Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (Fata) and said that recruitment and transfers of staff in different departments must be made purely on merit and no compromise should be tolerated in this regard.
Presiding over a meeting to discuss administrative and operational matters of different departments of Fata at Governor House here on Friday, the governor said that their policies were purely based on merit.
The meeting beside the Secretary to Governor, Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad was also attended by the directors of all the line departments of Fata.
The governor also expressed the confidence that with the functioning of agency councils the workings would become more transparent in Fata. Because, he added, correct decisions would emerge as a result of the discussions on various matters in the meetings of those councils.
Iftikhar also pointed out that the line departments at agency level would be under the control of the respective political agents for administrative purposes only whereas they would enjoy full authority in dealing with their internal affairs.
He also said that all must be fully aware that the respective administrative head at the agency level would enjoy sole authority in dealing with the appointment and transfers. However, he remarked, un-necessary transfers should be avoided and performance as well as need-based transfers should be taken into account in this respect.
