Delta Airlines Inc, will cut 2,000 aircraft-maintenance jobs as well as up to 3,100 customer-service jobs over the next several months in a plan to reduce total staffing by 7,000, the Wall Street Journal said in its online edition. Delta officials were not immediately available for comment.
Atlanta-based Delta has searched for ways to cut costs to restructure its business in a fight to avoid bankruptcy. Like other airlines, it has been plagued by high costs, weak revenue, skyrocketing fuel prices and stiff competition from discount carriers.
