Punjab Health Minister, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, has said that the government will establish model pharmacy services in all the private and government hospitals and necessary legislation would be made for this purpose soon.
He expressed these views while addressing a departmental meeting, here on Saturday.
The government will ensure supply of medicines to the people and laws in this regard will be strictly implemented. Legislation will also be undertaken under which health department will have the legal authority for regular inspection of private laboratories and hospitals, he said.
The minister said that the pharmacists could play basic role in improving the quality of life by providing the people better pharmaceutical services and they could also play their vital role in combating abuse and irrational use of medicines by the people.
He said there were thousands of accidents and death occurring as result of drug misadventures and a large proportion of population still does not have access to proper health care facilities. He said that by setting up model pharmacy services in hospitals, the team of pharmacists should not only supervise the drug distribution but also provide the clinical and drug information services, which was need of the hour.
