Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon has announced CNG consuming buses would be introduced in Islamabad and other big cities of the country to lessen the level of air pollution.
This step, the Minister said, would also reduce the consumption of imported diesel enabling government to save substantial foreign exchange (FE) spent on its import.
Presiding over a high-level meeting here, the Petroleum Minister said import of oil had been reduced during last two years due to increase in domestic production of gas.
He further said by switching the furnace oil-based power plants over gas, the country would be able to save import bill annually to the tune of dollars 6 to 7 hundred million.
The amount thus saved would be spent on other development projects, the minister added.
Amanullah Jadoon said government was trying hard to augment production of oil and gas in the country to reduce dependence on imports.
Secretary Petroleum Ahmad Waqar and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
