Banned India captain Sourav Ganguly could still play in the first Test against South Africa on November 20, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement here on Monday. ICC match referee Clive Lloyd handed out the unprecedented two-Test ban following India's slow over-rate during the six-wicket defeat by Pakistan in Saturday's one-day international at Eden Gardens, Calcutta.
Currently, Ganguly will miss both Tests against the Proteas in Kanpur and Calcutta.
But the left-handed batsman is appealing against the ban and the ICC said: "Should this appeal not be finalised before the start of the Indias first Test against South Africa starting from November 20, Ganguly would be able to compete in the match."
