The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) is holding a countrywide lawyers convention on Saturday (today) at Lahore to evolve a strategy for launching a protest campaign against the decision of President General Pervez Musharraf of holding dual offices and parliament's subsequent approval of a Bill in this regard.
Representatives of lawyers from all over the country would attend the convention. The invitations have already been dispatched to the office bearers of Supreme Court Bar Association, provincial bar associations and district bar associations.
According to a senior representative of lawyers, the lawyers convention would also discuss the outcome of lawyers ongoing campaign for the restoration of the Constitution in its original form, independence of judiciary and supremacy of the parliament.
He said the decision of holding convention was taken during the last meeting of the Joint Action Committee of lawyers. It had become imperative now to launch the protest after the parliament's adoption of the two-office bill.
