Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Bahawalpur headed by Syed Afzal Ahmed Kazmi has remanded seven police officials to police custody for interrogation for two days. Police failed to find any clue of the culprits who fled away from the lock-up. Seven police officials including ASI, Mehr Shabbir Ahmed, Head Constable, Nasrullah and constables Iftikhar Ahmed, Rafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Anwar, Abdul Sattar and Amjad Hussain were produced before ATC in chains.
Seven police officials were held on Thursday on the charge of negligence of duty because two accused of murder escaped from the judicial lock-up of Ahmedpur east on Wednesday. Police failed to re-arrest them.
"We have registered a case against 12 official of city police station Ahmedpur east and arrested seven of them while another case was instituted against the culprits," said DPO Bahawalpur Asif Nawaz.
According to details, two murderers Muhammad Ashraf alias Chand and Jamshed alias Jimmy were arrested on the charge of killing a youth Muhammad Naeem Ghauri last year.
On Wednesday their two brothers Muhammad Shehzad and Raja came to police station with breakfast. During meeting with their brothers they took out their pistol concealed in the "Tiffin". They overpowered the constable on duty and forced him to unlock the lock-up. When he (cop) resisted they shot at and injured him. Later, they snatched a motor cycle at pistol point from a citizen.
Sources said that Shehzad and Raja greased the palm of the constable on duty and he provided them an opportunity to meet in a separate room. During this they overpowered him.
However, police denied it. Incharge of lockup Ghulam Shabbir Assistant Sub Inspector had gone to home while Head constable was also away from the police station
Seven police officials, Ghulam Shabbir (ASI),Muhammad Nasrullah (Head Constable) and Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Anwar, Abdul Sattar, Amjad Ali were arrested and they were locked in the same police station. The injured cop Abdul Razzaq who was hospitalised is recovering rapidly.
