At least 21 passengers including a bus driver and two minor children and two women were killed and another 40 injured when a Faisalabad-bound special bus fell from an overhead bridge on a railway track near Chichawatni some 70 miles east of Multan on Saturday.
"At least 21 persons including two women, two minor children and a bus driver were killed when a bus carrying marriage party fell from an overhead bridge near Chichawatni (Sahiwal district) while 40 persons injured, 10 of them are in precarious condition," Dr Munir Ahmed Subhani Medical Superintendent of Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, Chichawatni told Business Recorder.
"This incident took place at 0330 am due to fog and invisibility but police received information at 0435 am. Then rescue parties were sent to site for the shifting of injured persons. A bus coming from Sadiqabad with a marriage party fell from an overhead bridge which caused death of 21 persons while 40 sustained injuries," said DPO Sahiwal Malik Khuda Bakhsh Awan.
He said that injured were admitted to Tehsil Head Quarter
Hospital Chichawatni where an emergency has been declared and appealed to the people to donate blood for saving the lives of the injured people.
Dr Munir Subhani further told that Four passengers who were in critical condition were shifted to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, While six are in Chichawatni hospital, remaining 30 people relieved after first aid because they were minor injured. However Bride and Groom who were in a car remained safe. Dr Subhani further said that bodies of ill-fated passengers were shifted to their homes in Private and Official ambulances after autopsy (which is necessary as per law).
