Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the provincial government has provided substantial resources for bringing about revolutionary changes in police system and inspection system of police stations has been made more effective for combating crime in the province. He was talking to Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao who called on him here on Saturday and discussed with him law and order situation and other important matters.
The chief minister said that police department has been directed to adopt modern and scientific methods of investigation to control heinous crimes to the optimum level. He said that people have been warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in arms exhibition.
He further said that police and other law enforcing agencies are making concerted efforts to investigate the heinous crimes and have already arrested a number of persons involved in such crimes. He said that cases are being pursued vigorously in the courts for bringing the culprits to the justice.
About his government initiatives taken to improve law and order the chief minister said that police patrolling posts are being set up in the province which would help improve the existing police culture in an efficient manner. He said patrolling posts would also serve as help line for the people and would go a long way to combat crimes for the redressal of public grievances. He further said that the government has undertaken revolutionary steps for imparting better training to the police officials posted at these patrolling posts.
The federal minister informed the chief minister that a comprehensive strategy has been evolved at national level to fight against terrorism. He said federal as well as provincial governments are undertaking joint steps to further improve law and order situation in the country.
